As we were leaving Custer, we came across the Custer Veterans Memorial. We are grateful for all who have served allowing us to live in this most amazing country.
Returning to the Mickelson, we head toward the Crazy Horse exhibit and along the way, meet Todd and Moe. Sharing our plans and adventures, we hope to cross paths again at RAGBRAI. Our day was planned as a short day rather than taking a day off—a type of active recovery kind of day. The closer we got to Hill City, the darker the skies became. Just as we got to Hill City to Main Street, we found a restaurant that allowed us to sit close to the bikes-Tin City Saloon. Just as we sat down, it began to rain. We stayed until it stopped and rode to our accommodations for the night-a log cabin at the Mt Rushmore KOA-one of the largest in the country. And wow! It was like a small city! Finding our cabin, we enjoyed snacks from our panniers for dinner while sitting at a picnic table under the pines. Kids were playing at the swing sets with laughter ringing through the air. They were so carefree and happy!
Opening windows for ventilation allowed us to hear the coyotes and owls during the night. I wonder how many of our bunny friends made it through the night? Life flourishing all around, in one way or another. Tomorrow, we begin traveling new roads!
