Day 19
Darby, MT to Wisdom, MT
Miles: 58.07
Elevation: 3,527
Time: 7 hours 1 minute
Total miles: 943.12
Total Elevation: 41,972
Total Time: 96 hours 40 minutes
As we departed Darby, two black billed Magpies were chasing a squirrel.
We had 2 passes to climb today so we enjoyed the lead out. At times, the shoulder was not good with cars passing closely. At one point, I had to keep on the ‘straight and narrow’ causing me to run over a garter snake. Sorry little buddy.
At about mile 10, we stopped in to a store at Conner for second coffee.
And then off we went for the climbs. Through Sula, we headed up to Lost Trail Pass followed by Chief Joseph Pass . It was a slow slough. Our decent from the 93 to highway 43 along a road with very deep ruts and uneven surfaces. Our next stop was Big Hole National Battlefield. A very sad part of US history. Finally, we arrived in Wisdom with 6 drops of rain (grateful we didn’t get rained on today.) After checking in, we went to Antlers Saloon for dinner. Buckey was still there working harder than ever. So fun to chat with other people there. And celebrating a birthday.
Returning to our room, it was moments before we were the sleeping dead!!
Tomorrow is another climbing day so off the bed.
