Day 12
Kettle Falls, WA to Gillette Lake, WA
Miles: 34.58
Elevation: 2,241
Time: 3 hrs 58 minutes
Total miles: 532.08
Total Elevation: 28,901
Total Time: 58 hrs 59 minutes
Today is sort of a day off-shorter distance and less climbing.
Breakfast was in our room made by the microwave from items purchased last night. Greek yogurt is always a healthy choice and left overs can be creatively combined. We got the ‘ice chest’ in the pannier figured out allowing to keep food ‘refrigerated’.
In Colville, we stopped at the local Walmart for more supplies like more Velcro and ice. We meet the most interesting people. It’s peculiar so many are from San Diego, Ca. Just beyond Walmart was a logging yard where a crane like machine was moving logs. Fascinating! Headed east, we cycled into the wind. That can make for a long day! A few miles further was a laundry mat where we spent an hour or so followed by second coffee at Big Al’s. Such a relaxing start to the day.
Once done, off we went to get to Gillette Lake. The climbs were a couple miles each time but pretty much 3%. We are amazed how strong we are getting!
About half way through, we saw prairie dogs in a nearby field-our first siting of them! So cute!!
One more favorite ’truck’ sign and we arrived at Gillette Lake in a little hunting cabin in the woods. Hot shower. Dinner was at Beaver Lodge where we met Danielle who was simply delightful! We had so much fun talking about cycling and bicycle seats. She recalled the banana seat many of us had as kids. So much fun reminiscing about riding bikes as kids. And as I mentioned to her, I’ve never met anyone who talks about their memories on a bike without laughing and telling a grand story. Bikes are good for people! Dinner done, we retire our home for the night.and a cozy fire in the wood burning stove. Life is good!!
