“This Life is Pretty Amazing”
Today we are back in the saddle! Knowing it was a relatively short day and check in wasn’t until 3, we enjoyed a leisurely morning with a second cup of coffee and fun people watching. There is a group of college anthropology students staying at the Inn who have come each year to study and excavate nearby areas. You could hear the excitement in their voices.
Once on the road, we passed several meadows and farms. Within minutes, a deer standing by a creek bolted through the brush. And beyond, a prairie dog greeted us with his cute chirps before quickly retreating to his den. Our next friend presented along the shoulder-a snake. He was moving rather slow. The road was a sequence of climbs and descents until we turned just outside of Ten Sleep where nature’s palate painted the landscape. It was just 1 in the afternoon so we stopped to have a snack and cold iced tea. Then off to explore the town. Its charm and history was fascinating!! A block off the Main Street, we walked through neighborhoods and came across children playing in bubbles. It was so fun to watch and remember the simple joy a child feels playing outside in sprinklers or bubbles during summertime. Chatting with locals, some have been here for generations while others invested in businesses due to Ten Sleep’s uniqueness. A quick bite at one of the restaurants and we were ready to call it a day. Tomorrow will be a big climb day with over 4,000 feet of elevation gain in just 20 miles. We want to be ready!
