We are now in the Grasslands where the terrain does not change much…nearly flat, grassy and we are seeing corn planted in the fields. Epic ride weather warns us of strong crosswinds.
Leaving Wall, my phone lets me know I’ve used up my storage space so I’ll need to address this later today.
With the terrain, we are rather exposed with the winds gusting across the grasses. Thankfully Drew shields me from most of the wind but the gusts cause the bike to buck and weave. I keep a further distance so as not to risk swerving into him. The large vehicles-big rigs, big RVs and truck with trailers have considerable effect on us, first pushing air towards us, then blocking the crosswind drawing us closer to the vehicles then a vacuum/vortex as they pass. We are thankful for the kindness of those who move a lane over while passing us. In Wyoming and South Dakota, bicycles are allowed to travel on the interstates as there aren’t many other roads to traverse the states. Based on driving patterns, I sense some drivers are not happy to share the road albeit, the shoulder is wide-about 10 feet and we’re riding as far right as possible.
After more than 6 hours total time out there, we arrive safely, spent and ready to be done. As tough as it was, working together, we have another challenging day under our belts! It’s amazing how strong we’re becoming. We’ve been diligent about eating good food, maintaining protein intake, hydration and vitamins. And it’s paying off. We are healthier today than when we began.
Now, to clear some storage so I can take more photos! lol!
About 2/3rds in for the day.. it’s been I bit of a work day, but still a blast. Quick stop in Kadoka for some snacks.
