Today marks our 9th consecutive day in the saddle. We have been mindful to ride at a sust pace, mostly in Zone 2. No records being broken here; just a continuous forward pace. We are watching for signs of ‘overtraining’ and our bodies are adapting well to the workload.

This morning, I decided I wanted to ride with music so I paired the Walkman to the Clip 4 speaker and off we went.

Gin Wigmore, Dirty Vegas, Huey Lewis. All high energy artists who make keeping a cadence easier.

And then it happened-a bear, 50 yards out. Drew yelled ‘bear’ and blew his air horn. The bear ran from left to right across the road and into the woods. Yikes! I knew they were out there but hoping never to see one. Whew! Talk about an adrenaline dump!

Much of the terrain was the same today- tall trees on both sides providing shade. The skies were cast in high clouds with some billowing ones. So beautiful. As previous days, our ascent to the pass was followed by an amazing descent. We’re learning to love the ‘truck signs’. We passed Camp Growden, a Civilian Conservation Corps. It’s interesting to read about all that they did and how it shaped their lives. It was a very beautiful place.
As we approached Kettle Falls, we came across a logging area that had thousands of logs stacked, some with rain birds spraying. So many things just ‘appear’ in our daily lives without us thinking or knowing how it happens. It’s been interesting to see part of the process. A little further in, we came across a home that had several birdhouses on the trees So whimsical and fun!
Finally at our destination, we went to dinner at TJ’s Tavern, recommendation from a local and boy was it good! A trip to the local grocer for food for breakfast and back to our room, we were done for the day.
One more day in Washington before we cross into Idaho.
And then it’s Friday again!
